--- {{{ the Karma System ++ installation;

The first step is to make sure that you have a sane environment;
Karma was developed and tested on debian linux, redhat linux,
and IBM AIX. If this is not your platform, or you have a very
old / custom installation, then you might have to do most of
the installtion manually.

However, in most cases the installation script should take care
of everything for you.

The following is an example of an ideal installation:

---------------------------------------BEGIN DRAMATIZATION

tar xzf karma-x.xx.tar.gz
cd karma-x.xx
su				# enter root passowrd.
./install.pl

 --[ the Karma System: installation ]-------

You have read the INSTALL and README files already, rrrrright?
                   -                   --  -- -   -------- ---/

 --[ checking kit ]--

	looking for File::NFSLock...............ok
	looking for Net::NNTP...................ok
	looking for Net::SMTP...................ok
	looking for Date::Format................ok
	looking for Curses......................ok

 --[ installing users ]--

	adding group karma......................ok
	adding user karma.......................ok
	adding user oper........................ok
	adding user ktalkd......................ok
	setting file permissions................ok

 --[ installing karma sources ]--
	copying files to /home/karma............ok

 --[ installing configureation ]--
	installing terminfo description.........1 entrie(s) written to /usr/share/terminfo.
	installing (x)inetd configureation......inetd service telnet/karma installed.
	installing ktalkd init script...........service karma installed.

 --[ done!  ]--

---------------------------------------END DRAMATIZATION

Now, wasn't that nice? Yeah, right. Chances are that you'll
be missing at least one of the required modules. If so, the
script will offer to download and install it automagically.

Just because you have Karma 'INSTALL'ed doesn't mean that you
have a bbs of your own yet. For that you will still have much
work to do, such as creating custom text graphics, designing
revolutionary user interfaces, and losing your virginity.

Also note that the install script cannot effect any changes
on your firewall setup, so it might be necessary to do that by
hand.

At this point you'll probably want to try telnet'ing into your
system to have a look around the bbs:

Log in as user 'operator'; The password will be set
to whatever to entered when the installer asked.

While you're there you might as well head to the 'info'
menu and fill in some profile information and get a feel
for Karma as an input device.

Well, you should be all set, if there are any problems
just read the documentation over again and hope that
you can glean a little extra knowledge.
Failing that, dial on into telnet://karma.darktech.org
and see if anyone there can help.
